I would like to wish you a very warm welcome to Layston CofE First School

As Head teacher, I am proud to share with you the wonderful features of our church school and the Christian Values which underpin everything we do. We are a nurturing and happy school where everyone is supported, valued and respected.  Our dedicated and enthusiastic staff work hard to ensure that every child is supported and encouraged to reach their full potential, in the context of a caring Christian community.

Our school is a happy and stimulating place for children to enjoy learning from the age of 4 to 9 years. We pride ourselves on our high standards and our inclusive ethos: this means that we believe that every child matters and we strive to ensure that every child in our school gets their chance to shine. In our Forest school, children grow in confidence and we encourage them to take risks, make decisions and develop their own independent learning skills.

We have strong links with our local church, St. Peter’s C of E, and Christian principles form the foundation of all of our contacts with children. Our incumbents are regular visitors to our school and deliver weekly collective worship. Our children are always keen to raise money for local charities and we regularly hold fundraising events to support our local community.

We place great emphasis on the importance of partnerships between children, teacher and parents. The school operates an ‘open door’ policy encouraging parents to visit and talk about their child’s learning and development, and to feel at ‘home’ within our environment. We encourage our parents and carers to become involved in all aspects of school life, so that, as partners, we can promote high standards of learning, behaviour and attitudes to enable every child to reach their full potential.

We believe childhood is a very special time. We work hard to make your child’s stay here a happy, productive and memorable one. We have high expectations of our pupils, both in their learning and socially with their peers.

Our website aims to give you a flavour of Layston, as well as providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community. Please contact us to arrange a visit. We are proud of our school and enjoy sharing our achievements with visitors.
