UniformAt Layston C of E First School we ask all the children to wear the correct school uniform every day. This means they are smart and appropriately dressed for learning.

School uniform requirements are set out below.

Girls – Winter

  • Grey pinafore dress
  • Grey skirt or trousers
  • White shirt with collar/polo shirt
  • Green school jumper or cardigan
  • Green school fleece
  • Grey or green tights or grey, white or black socks
  • Black or brown shoes

Girls – Summer

  • Green and white check dress
  • Green cardigan
  • White socks
  • Black or brown shoes


  • Grey trousers or shorts (summer option)
  • White shirt with a collar or white polo shirt
  • Green school jumper
  • Green school fleece
  • Grey or black socks
  • Black or brown shoes

PE Kit

  • Green shorts
  • Green Layston T-shirt
  • Green jogging bottoms
  • Green sweat shirt
  • Black or white trainers

Forest School

Please Note

Legs and arms need to be covered in the forest even in warm weather due the presence of thorns, brambles and nettles and so on.

In exceptionally hot weather the children will be directed to wear PE kits and take part in modified forest school activities avoiding the above.

Waterproofs are provided by school and expected to be worn when Forest School leaders decide it is appropriate i.e. wet, cold, muddy conditions.

Parents to provide an application of sunscreen before school and provide sunhats as necessary in hot weather as well as appropriate layering in cold.

Hot Weather

During the hot weather ALL children need

  1. A named sun hat or cap
  2. A named freshly filled water bottle with sports cap
  3. Sun cream applied BEFORE school. Sun cream should not be brought to school. See office team if your child has a sun related medical condition.
